How is your season going so far after attending a Warrior Running Camp this past summer?

I have been having a great first year running for the Creekside High School cross country team.  I started out running on the JV squad but my last 3 races I have run for the varsity team.  I have improved my times on all but one of my races and my current PR is 18:31.  I am looking to break 18 by the end of the season and think I will letter as a freshman this year.

Jamie Colon

How is your season going so far after attending a Warrior Running Camp this past summer?

This is Jamie Colon, a sophomore at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia. I attended the Warrior Camp last July 2011 at Berry College.  (Other than being homesick) I really had a great time and I use what I learned in camp nearly every time I run.  Learning how to hold my arms and correct my form for the hill runs, I was able to run a 20:32 5k at the Great American XC in Cary, North Carolina.  I have set my new PR this year now 2 minutes faster than last year!!  My goal is to break 20 by the end of the month!  I do hope to return next year.

Cross Country has been great this year, I went from the #4/#5 man on my high school team last year to #1 this season.  I was way ahead of the rest of the team coming off of the camp.  I've only been running since August of 2010, so I really needed to learn about proper hydration and nutrition.  Proper rest, nutrition and hydration help me enjoy my running- finishing with the leaders doesn't hurt either!  The camp taught me much more than the physical part.

I ran the Spanish River Invitational last year and ran an 18:55.  This year I ran a 17:31.  And, at that huge race- I saw many of my fellow camp members.  I gotta tell you, we represented Warriors with pride.  Virtually every worthwhile race features Warrior runners and it's nice to have that network of friends.

The best lesson I learned at camp?  If i do the work- the results will come.  I'm finding the same to be true in the classroom.  I look forward to districts, regionals and then.......state I hope!

I've already asked my dad about returning to camp next year.

Thanks-

Alexis Lanaville

How is your season going so far after attending a Warrior Running Camp this past summer?

Alexis Lanaville was an incoming Freshman and started running about 8 weeks before camp. She was running about a 12 min/mi prior to the summer and barely able to make it 2-3 miles.
After camp and a summer of training, she accomplished her first 5K at 24:29. She has been breaking her record each race except for one. Her last 5K run, this past Saturday, she PR'ed at 22:20.
I definitely contribute her attendance at camp to her success. She will definitely be back next summer. Thanks for making it fun for her and her teammates!

So far, I've met my goal of getting in the 18s by getting an 18:49 at the Great American Cross Country Festival in North Carolina. Now I'm trying to get even further down in the mid 18s.

Courteney Zboyan

How is your season going so far after attending a Warrior Running Camp this past summer?

Currently as a freshman,  Courteney Zboyan is the number one runner for Jupiter HS.
Her first race , the Jupiter invitational, she won in 20:58 in a come from behind victory over Benjamin school senior Meredith Anderson. The second race was Spanish River inv. Where she ran 20:39 for 15 in scoring and the first Palm Beach county finisher.
Next up Fleet Feet where she was in third place before the last turn and was misdirected. By the time she corrected the mistake, she finished in 15 th with a 21:12. She may have run a 20:20. She rebounded to win the Palm Beach Gardens invite in 21:01.
She credits Warrior camp for helping her get used to upping her mileage. As her mom, I immediately saw how she ate slower, drank more liquids, and really tried to eat better.
Thank you!

Cody Callahan

How is your season going so far after attending a Warrior Running Camp this past summer?

Cody Callahan has had a wonderful cross country season.  Cody runs on the junior varsity team at Deerfield Windsor School in Albany, GA. Cody has placed in the top 10 three different times this year and top 15 the other two races.   He feels like your camp made the biggest difference in his performance this year and can’t wait to come back With Coach Cathy Jones next summer!
