Feature Article – Nick Posada
Nick Posada has running in his blood. His mom is a runner and his brother, Peter Posada, was a very good runner too. Nick is a junior at Winter Park High School and has attended 4 WARR10R™ Running Camps in the past 3 years. He has been running since middle school and became a serious runner after reaching the 9th grade.
His personal best times are 16:22 for cross country (5K), 9:46 in the 3200 meters and 4:38 in the 1600 meters. Goals for this cross country season are to run a 15:30 and finish in the top 10 at state. Other goals include breaking a couple family records – 4:20 and 9:27 for the 1600 and 3200 meters. His college goal would be to run for a NCAA Division I school, especially the Michigan Wolverines.
Nick recently competed in the Disney Jamboree 3 mile cross country race this past weekend and the race plan was simple – get out hard to avoid the crowd before the first bottle neck turn, push hard throughout the race, then kick it in at the finish.
After the first mile with 3 runners, he was pumped with a 5:05. The second mile was an eye opener 10:30, he then had to push harder to reach his goal time of 15:30. About 400 meters out, former high school runner, Mike Burke, surged to a substantial lead and along came WARR10R™ campers Chad Gagnier and Will Bridges to pass Nick with less than 400 meters to go. Already pushing hard, it was time for the kick. Nick then passed the two runners that just passed him and was quickly closing in on the overall leader with the race about to end. Finally, he finished in 15:59 for second place, 1 second behind the winner. Overall, he was pleased with his race and the fact that he was able to finish with a kick.
Since Nick has attended 4 WARR10R™ Running Camps, he comes back for the tough runs, organized games and competitions. He likes the opportunity to win prizes based on these games and competitions. He also expressed that the Great WARR10R™ Race is a very funny event and it is a nice way to end a camp week. His first meet of the season is September 18, 2009 at University of Florida Golf Course. |
