WARR10R™:  What HS did you attend?

Sarah McCain:  Kathleen High School, Lakeland, FL

WRC:  What university do you attend and why did you choose to attend there?

SM:  I attend Webber International University because of the small community, close location to home, the running coaches are amazing, and the terrain is the best in central FL!

WRC:  How many years have you been running?

SM:  I started running my junior year in high school and I'm now a college Freshman. This is my 3rd year.

WRC:  Take me through your race at this past weekend's Mt. Dew Invitational.

SM:  I had pre-race jitters more usual! The transition from high school to college is one hard to get used to and just getting close to my 5K high school time would've made me happy. The start of the race was SO much faster than any other meet I've raced. In the first 800m, I realized my pace was faster than planned and I backed off a little bit, afraid of dying at the end of the race. My first mile was a few seconds fast, but right where I wanted to be. The rolling hills started in the 2nd mile and I fell back, but the 3rd mile was so rough with the 2 biggest hills, I was exhausted, and ended up running a minute slower than my goal.

WRC:  What are your personal best times for high school xc and tf?  When?

SM:  My xc 5K PR was 22:08 at the district meet. In track I ran the 4x800, 4x400, and 800m; my PR for the 800m was 2:35 at the regional meet.

WRC:  What are your goals for the season?

SM:  My goals for this season are to run mid 21s and the help my team place as high as we can in conference.

WRC:  How many WARR10R Running Camps have you attended? Which ones?

SM:  In high school, I attended the Georgia Team Camp 08, which was the summer before my senior year where my times dropped by over a minute.

WRC:  Have you attended other camps and what was the difference in a WARR10R camp and others?

SM:  I have attended a Mountain High running camp the summer before (2007) in Mars Hill, NC. The difference was that the WARR10R Running Camps focus on team building, the spirit, the planned activities, and a well planned running courses!

WRC:  What did you like best about the camp?

SM:  I loved going to Georgia and training there on the hills, terrain and weather are 2 of my favorite things about running, and they were perfect at Berry college! But, my favorite thing was definitely the team activities where we got to bond to be a closer team. The staff was always enthusiastic and the ideas they had for games were so much fun, I felt valued at the WARR10R running camp.

We want to thank Sarah for speaking with us and we wish her the very best this season.
